Our Mechanical Detailer/ Designer will prepare drawings for mechanical devices and machines.
Job duties:
- Exercise critical judgement in creating designs that perform functionally and meet project specifications while considering key aspects of safety, cost, compliance, ability to fabricate, ergonomics and aesthetics.
- Create 3D models of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and perform applicable calculations where needed.
- Zero-line dimension on all layouts, and reference locations, as required.
- Identify all critical locating points and/or surfaces.
- Clearly label and illustrate all part sizes, part ranges, and overlap of stations on either side of design.
- Show all views as required, labeled with stock flow arrows.
- Determine build-up of tolerances between details and final assembly of customer part prints.
- Show all motions (extend and retract) and potential interferences areas.
- Add design intent to layouts where the intent of the design or ideas are not clear.
- Balloon all manufacture parts on assemblies, with any odd or special materials labeled.
- Balloon all purchased components on assemblies with all the appropriate ordering information.
- Prepare a preliminary sequence of operation chart, and coordinate the transfer of information to electrical engineering and to fluid power engineering, to not cause a delay in the project schedule.
- Respond to manufacturing request for technical assistance during the build of the equipment.
- Enter bills of material electronically for all manufacturing and purchasing items and ensure information can be easily identified for ordering and is against the correct subassembly.
- Document, compute quantities, determine materials needed and evaluate cost for machinery to be manufactured.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source components that meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Plan mechanical drawings by reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with engineers and product designers.
- Control and document the distribution and archiving of drawings and documents.
- Prepare supporting information by developing bills of materials, standard parts, and fasteners.
- Modify drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating changes.
- Create support materials such as engineering books and technical manuals.
- Keep the Project Leader informed (on a weekly basis) of progress to meet the completion date.
- Participate in meetings.
- Comply with legal requirements by adhering to codes and regulations
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
- Travel to customer facility for project meeting and/or design reviews, or as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Certificate or Associate Degree in Mechanical Design required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the printing and coating industry.
- Experience in design, repair, and analysis of printing equipment a plus.
